Over a period of time the natural tannins in the timber will react with the surrounding air and it will change from a light honey colour to a more silvered hue.
The leather tag can be treated with a small amount of neutral leather cream. It's a natural skin so to keep it looking supple a little love is needed. Leather conditioners are lotion-like and moisturise the material, they are to be gently rubbed into the leather. The hide will soak up the conditioner, just like your skin would soak up a moisturiser. Its not essential to carry out these care instructions however it will increase the longevity of the leather.
